    Reason:Sometimes we may find that the actual run time reported by your Smart-UPS differs from our own predicted run time. Using a great battery can help with calibration.

    How do you perform a runtime calibration on APC UPS?

    Business Edition – Click on the name of your UPS, then select Diagnostics. In the Run Diagnostics section, select Calibration from the main drop-down list and click Apply. Network Management Card – Select the UPS from the Tests list. Select Runtime Calibration and click Apply.

    Solution.During normal operation, your Smart-UPS will provide an estimated runtime using the software, network card, or LCD display. This reading will vary based on load, state of charge, battery, and battery life. Performing a proper calibration will force the UPS to run on battery power, discharging and recharging the batteries. This will “learn” to see the UPS what the actual achievable uptime is. Discharging and recharging the battery wears out the battery system and is not recommended unless you want to focus on a single problem. Please note that the specific travel time shown when UPS is literally online is only an estimate. Reported run timewhen the UPS is literally powered by the battery is more reliable. In fact, due to increased battery wear, we recommend that you calibrate at least once every 6 months (if necessary).

    Of course, there are two types of calibration: manual calibration and user-controlled calibration

    User command:

  • This is the preferred method for all Smart-UPS except models beginning with SU (example: SU700NET).
  • Calibration is initiated by Power Chute Edition, the Network Management Card, or the UPS LCD panel (if applicable). Depending on your software, firmware, or perhaps hardware version, the exact wording may change slightly:
    • Business Edition – Click on the name of your UPS, then select Diagnostics. In the “Diagnostics” section, select “Calibration” from the drop-down list and click “Apply”.
    • Network Management Card – From the Tests menu, select the UPS menu. Select a time to run the calibration and click Apply.
    • LCD Display – Go to Test & Diagnostics and select Battery CalibrationYes. UPS will probably ask you, “Are you sure?” Select “Yes” and press Enter.
  • Make sure this normal load is attached.
  • Make sure the battery is 100% charged before starting calibration.
  • Usage should be above 30% at best.
  • UPS resets the new drama series, then comes back online and requests a rewrite.
  • If the battery is good, the charge will not drop. However, a defective or expired battery can potentially lead to a drop in the number of refills. For this reason, you can do this during the maintenance period.
  • Calibration must not be interrupted to obtain reliable results.
  • Manual calibration:

    • This is the preferred method for “su” series Smart-UPS or almost the case where user-controlled calibration is not possible
    • Stop the Power Chute program and disconnect our serial, USB or Ethernet cables.
    • The UPS must be at least 30% full during the process, this load and the load must not differ by more than +/- 5%. IT IS IMPORTANT
    • Connect some UPS to thiscritical load, then run the UPS on battery power by unplugging it.
    • Let the device run on battery power until it turns off completely. The load is hanging on the inverter and you can drop it.
    • If the load is often less than 30% or you expect the calibration to complete before the inverter unloads the load, normalization will not work.
    • Plug the inverter back in and prepare for charging (preferably turned off).

Due to the increased wear of these batteries, we recommend normalizing no more than once every few months (if necessary).
